Central DuPage Hospital (Winfield, IL)

Barrier Corp. installed a Siplast Lightweight Insulating Cellular Concrete Roof system on this new construction hospital project.  Our scope of work included installation of the LWIC roof system on several roof levels over metal decking.  Barrier Corp. poured a concrete slurry coat into the metal deck flutes and then installed the expanded polystyrene EPS insulation board in a stair step fashion to create a positive slope to drain pitch.  Finally we poured a 2" average of LWIC topping over the EPS insulation board to provide a smooth and monolithic surface ready to be roofed.

114 S. Racine (Chicago, IL)

Working with time constraints was hardly an issue when it came to the job at 114 S. Racine. We were able to mobilize and pour this 6800SF insulated roof in a day, after less than one week of being awarded the job.

Barrier poured ¼” slurry coat of lightweight insulating concrete over a temporary roof membrane previously installed by the roofer. We then installed the EPS board in a stair-step fashion across the roof starting at the perimeter to achieve a ¼” per foot slope to the one and only roof drain. The drain was in a very difficult location, meaning we had to modify our original board layout to overcome this challenge. We then topped the board with 2” of lightweight insulating cellular concrete.

This project was challenging due to the short timeframe we were given as well as the difficult placement of several rooftop HVAC units that we actually had to crawl underneath to install the roof insulation system.
